Alexis Sanchez To Man United: A Good Move All Round?

Whilst there is still over a week to go until the end of the winter transfer window, one of the biggest deals has already gone ahead, one that may have a bearing on the destination of a major trophy; Alexis Sanchez making his way from Arsenal to Manchester United.

The Chilean superstar has arguably been the North London club’s best player during the last few seasons; his Nike Mercurial football boots helping him to score a number of great goals that have caught the eye. However, with his contract running down and an Arsenal side struggling to re-impress themselves back into the Premier League’s top four, the club have made the sensible decision to part with the 29-year-old, even if it is to a great rival.

Alexis Sanchez & Nike Mercurial Football Boots: The Perfect Pair

Sanchez has arguably been one of the world’s most sought-after forwards for almost a decade. First catching the European eye as a winger for Italian side Udinese, his move to Barcelona in 2011 made him a household name. Winning the Spanish league title in 2012, he was at first a regular ‘impact player’ for the Catalan side; appearing off the bench to add pace and direction to the attack. Despite establishing himself in the Barcelona starting XI over the next two seasons (scoring 21 goals in 54 appearances in 2013-14) he was allowed to join Arsenal in a bid for him to establish himself as a true world star.
It didn’t take him long to impress in an Arsenal shirt. His first season at The Gunners saw him score 25 goals in 52 appearances, as his side retained the FA Cup. The final is particularly remembered for his goal; a ferocious strike from 30-yards-out that is arguably one of the better goals to have been scored at the ‘new’ Wembley. 2016-17 saw him finish with his best tally yet; 30 goals from 51 appearances and another FA Cup winners medal, after he opened the scoring on the way to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea. Now with his contract running down, he has moved on to a bigger stage. Can he repeat his magic for Manchester United?

No doubt helping him to impress throughout the last few years, was his Nike Mercurial football boots. Sanchez  sports the Nike Mercurial Superfly V version, which gives him extra ankle support as he glides past yet another opposition defence. The Mercurial range is also sported by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe; illustrating the benefits of these boots for quick, pacey forwards who also need a deftness of touch to control and strike the ball.

Why The Sanchez Move To Man United Makes Sense

With Manchester City currently leading the Premier League by some distance, it’s likely that the other Premier League clubs will be placing more concentration on Europe and the remaining domestic trophies after the transfer window shuts. Being in a somewhat better position than Arsenal – in terms of league positioning, an on-going Champions League campaign and just by sheer commercial revenue, the move to United makes a lot of sense for a 29-year-old seeking one last ‘big’ contract. He has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal for a reported £14m-a-year – so no, it really isn’t difficult to see the attractiveness of the move for Sanchez and his Nike Mercurial football boots!

Part of the deal was the swap of United midfielder, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who will give Arsenal a different option in the midfield. The hardworking Armenian international was highly-rated at his previous club Borussia Dortmund and even impressed for United in last season’s successful Europa League win. Arsenal have effectively gained an ‘asset’ for nothing – they would have lost Sanchez for free at the end of the season anyway if they weren’t prepared to make a deal. With Sanchez’s sizeable pay off the wage bill, this will also give Arsenal scope to reinvest in their squad.

For United, they have been heavily criticised for their ‘functional’ style of play under manager Jose Mourinho and Sanchez at least provides that extra attacking outlet that will help them to unlock particular tricky defences. You have to consider the impact on the side’s other players too – the goals have dried up for Romelu Lukaku of late and perhaps having a genuine world-class forward to link-up with, he’ll have more space and opportunities to work with, perhaps leading to more goals for the Belgian striker. So with a forward line of Sanchez, Lukaku, as well as the ever-improving youthfulness of Anthony Martial and England’s Marcus Rashford, United look a good bet to add to their trophy haul in the coming years....
